The Reset: Resetting Expectations
Overview
Expectations shape how we experience life. When things don’t go as planned, disappointment can make us doubt the promises of God. The Israelites faced this struggle as they stood on the edge of the Promised Land. After years of wandering, a new leader—Joshua—had to step forward in faith, trusting that God’s plan was still intact.
In Joshua 1:6-9, God commands Joshua to be strong and courageous, reminding him that success doesn’t come from personal strength but from obedience and trust in God. The Israelites had to reset their expectations. Entering the Promised Land wasn’t going to be easy. It required patience, trust in God’s timing, and the courage to move forward despite uncertainty.
The same is true for us. Sometimes, we expect God’s promises to unfold quickly or in ways that feel comfortable. But often, He calls us to step into the unknown, trusting Him beyond our plans. Resetting expectations means surrendering our timeline and leaning into God’s faithfulness.
Imagine preparing for a major life change—moving to a new city, starting a new job, or beginning college. There’s excitement, but also uncertainty. You prepare as best you can, but there are still unknowns. Stepping forward requires courage, patience, and trust that God is leading the way.
God calls us to trust Him with our future, even when it doesn’t align with our expectations. The question is: Will we move forward in faith?
